Forget duck face. A great selfie can come about even without having to pout your lips or pile on a truckload of makeup to look good. Just a few beauty fixes are enough for a flattering selfie.
Here are some tips to try out before you start snapping away:
Tip #1 - Even out your skin tone
Suffering from pigmented skin? No problem! Apply primer on your face and use a colour correcting foundation (or CC cream). The primer will help to keep your foundation in place and give it a more natural look, while the CC cream or foundation will even out your skin tone.
Tip #2 - Moisturise your lips
Cracked and dry lips are an absolute no-no when it comes to taking a selfie. Hydrate your lips with a lip balm or lip gloss beforehand so your lips look healthy and luscious.
Tip #3 - Define your cheekbones
When attempting a selfie with makeup on, be sure to highlight and contour your cheek bones. That will help to provide some definition to your face and give the illusion of high cheekbones. Using a bronzer for contouring will also give you that healthy, sun-kissed look!
Tip #4 - Open up your eyes
If your eyes are your favourite feature, make them pop in your selfie! Besides concealing any dark circles, try wearing an eyeliner, mascara and perhaps some smokey eye makeup. For a more dramatic look, skip the mascara and put on false eyelashes.
Tip #5 - Blot excess oil
Keep a pack of blotting sheets with you and remember to blot the excess sebum from your face before you take a photo so your face looks matte. If you don’t have a blotting sheet, try using substitutes like tissues, paper napkins, coffee filters or even toilet seat covers.
Bonus Tip - Find your angle
A good angle is important for snapping a gorgeous selfie! Natural light is the best type of lighting for any selfie eg. standing in front of a window. For a flattering look, tilt your head at a ¾ angle and hold the camera slightly above your face for a slimming effect.
Looking and feeling good now? Well, go forth and snap your perfect selfie!
