6 Tips To Prevent Wrinkles

Wrinkles do not suddenly just appear overnight. They are the end result of a long-drawn process in which the skin deteriorates. As women age, it gets harder to maintain good skin and equally (if not more) hard to prevent wrinkles from forming. We have to take great efforts to keep our skin youthful – and the best way is to start while we’re still young!

1. Care for your skin
Wrinkles start forming when there is not elastin and collagen in your skin and it starts to sag. You have to take regular care of your skin by cleansing and toning, and exfoliate once or twice a week. Remember to moisturise as well as apply sunblock to prevent sun damage before you head out!

2. Use an anti-wrinkle eye cream
It’s true that when your eyes crinkle as you’re laughing, you risk developing crow’s feet (or laugh lines) appear around your eyes. To prevent them, start applying an anti-wrinkle eye cream (even if you’re young). This will help to reduce the puffiness and increase the elastin around your eyes.

3. Control your facial expressions
Repetitive facial contortions not only overwork the muscles in your face, but also form creases beneath the skin’s surface. These continuous creases causes wrinkles to develop.

4. Consume foods with antioxidants and Vitamin C
Your skin needs a lot of vitamins and minerals to stay healthy. Vitamin C is essential in the production of collagen and antioxidants help to neutralise free radicals that harm your skin. Common foods that are high in Vitamin C are oranges, kiwis and strawberries while those rich in antioxidants include broccoli, carrots and tomatoes (the more colourful, the better).

5. Sleep on your back
Did you know that your sleeping position is the second biggest reason attributed to the formation of wrinkles? When you sleep on your stomach or on your side, your face is compressed into your pillow, creating facial distortion. Over time, this habit creates facial wrinkles. It is best to sleep on your back with a firm pillow to support your head (otherwise you may develop lines on your neck too).

 

6. Reduce stress
We know – it’s easier said than done. However, stress DOES make wrinkles appear more easily. If you’ve always been stressed out, it’s time to take a good look at your life and re-evaluate your priorities. Aim for a work-life balance by taking time out to rest, exercise, meditate or just do something you enjoy. You can kill two birds with one stone by being both happy and wrinkle-free!
