Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin and speeds up cell renewal for newer, healthier skin. Exfoliating twice a week is ideal for keeping your skin healthy, youthful and radiant.

You can always choose to purchase an exfoliating scrub at the pharmacy or beauty store, but you might want to make your own using ingredients you can easily find around your home because it can be cheaper! And the time required? 5 minutes tops.

All you need are 3 main ingredients:

Scrub - Coarse white sugar, brown sugar, sea salt etc
Essential Oil - Pick any one you like
Carrier Oil - You need to use a carrier oil to mix with the essential oil (olive oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil etc)

In this case, these are the ingredients we'll be using (makes 2 - 4 uses):
1/4 cup coarse white sugar (sugar is a natural exfoliant)
1/8 cup grapeseed oil
3 - 5 drops lemongrass essential oil
2 drops red food colouring
Airtight glass jar for keeping

First, pour out the white sugar into a mixing bowl.

Add the grapeseed oil and mix it in
. The texture should resemble wet sand at this point.

Then add and mix in the essential oil. We only had lemongrass, but you can pick any essential oil you want - we recommend a citrus scent!

Finally, stir in the red food colouring. Put less food colouring if you prefer a lighter pink or more of you prefer a darker pink.

When you have finished making your body scrub, pour it into an airtight glass jar for keeping and open it to use while you're in the shower.

If you want to make more sugar scrub, just add a larger portion of the ingredients. Just remember that the portion of carrier oil is usually about half the amount of the scrub!
