Believed to be one of the most alluring features on our face, eyelashes (especially thick, long ones) frame our face and give the illusion of bigger, more beautiful eyes. The eyes are said to be the windows to our soul, so enhancing our lashes will help our eyes to look more outstanding and expressive, and ultimately, enable us to feel more confident and attractive.

Many ladies invest time, effort and money enhancing their eyelashes in a bid to improve their appearance. While some are satisfied with putting on false eyelashes, mascara and curling their lashes to make them appear thicker and longer, others seek semi-permanent solutions like eyelash extensions and eyelash perming.

If you’re one of those who seek a more lasting eyelash treatment, you might be wondering what the difference is between an eyelash extension and an eyelash perm. Read on, and you’ll be able to better decide which treatment suits you best!

Eyelash Perming

What is it?
Eyelash perming is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure and an alternative to using your eyelash curler every day. It is a painless method in which chemicals are applied on the eyelashes and wrapped around mini foam rollers.

Pros

  • Save time and effort having to curl your eyelashes every day.
  • Makes your lashes appear a little longer.

Cons

  • It may be expensive compared to just buying mascara and a curler.
  • Your lashes may shed more significantly, become sparser and become more brittle.
  • You may get an allergic reaction if the procedure is not done properly.

How long does it last?
6 to 8 weeks

Eyelash Extensions

What is it?
Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent synthetic lashes that add on to the length and volume of your natural eyelashes. They are customisable and come in varying lengths, thickness and curls. The process is painless, and the aesthetician applies the false lashes to your lash line one at a time using an adhesive.

Pros

  • Save time and effort having to apply mascara or curl your eyelashes every day.
  • Makes your lashes appear longer, fuller and more dramatic.
  • You have plenty of lash choices to choose from.

Cons

  • They may be expensive and a bit troublesome to maintain.
  • They may cause infections or allergic reactions if the procedure is not done properly.
  • Your natural lashes may get damaged and fall out if the procedure is not done properly.
  • For those who are not used to wearing false eyelashes, the extensions may feel “heavy”.
  • The extensions tend to fall out over the period you are wearing them.

How long does it last?
2 to 3 weeks

If you’re a more laidback person who does not like too much fuss, you may want to choose eyelash perming over extensions. They are cheaper, less trouble to manage as they require little maintenance, and the effect can even last longer. For those of you who want the whole works and don’t mind spending time, effort and money maintaining your lashes, then you should definitely go for lash extensions!
