But did you know that ginger also plays an important role in achieving radiant skin?

Packed with anti-oxidant, -bacterial, -ageing and -inflammatory properties, consuming ginger will improve your skin from within by cleaning out the toxins in your system. Here are some other ways that ginger can help in improving your skin and restoring your natural glow:

  1.  Fades scars and age spots
Its anti-oxidant qualities tackles radicals in your body that damages skin cells. it can also reduce the appearance of hypopigmental scars (scars that are white or much lighter than your skin tone). Blending a small piece of ginger with an ice cube and then applying the mixture to your face once or twice a day can help in lightening such blemishes, and you should be able to see an improvement in a few weeks.

2.   Clears acne and blemishes
Ginger is an active killer of bacteria that forms on the surface of your skin or deep inside your pores. By doing this, the rate of acne formation and eruption is minimised. You can use ginger in two ways – either topically or internally. For a topical application, extract ginger juice, mix it with raw honey and apply it to your face. The other way is to add a small slice of ginger to your green smoothie and drink it.

3.   Rejuvenates skin
Containing around 40 anti-oxidant properties that protect against ageing, ginger is able to restore, rejuvenate, invigorate and stimulate your skin. Give your skin an instant pick-me-up with a homemade ginger mask twice a week – mix equal parts of grated or powdered ginger, honey and freshly-squeezed lemon juice. Apply to your face and leave it on for 30 minutes, then rinse it off to reveal radiant skin!

4.    Improves skin complexion
Ginger evens out skin discolourations, tightens facial pores, tones and improves elasticity of your skin. You can either apply ginger slices to your face or mix ginger juice with honey, and then apply the mixture to your face.

5.    Soothes inflammatory skin conditions
Those suffering from eczema and other skin inflammatory conditions can probably appreciate the anti-inflammatory properties in ginger. Restoring blood circulation, calming puffiness and soothing inflamed skin can be achieved with a ginger bath or steam. You can also try adding a few drops of ginger oil to a teaspoon of olive oil and massage the mixture into the affected area.

Now that we know how good ginger is for our skin - whether you intend to use it for a facial pampering treatment or as an emergency quick-fix, remember to always keep a fresh supply in your home!
